BREAKING: Trump Makes Another Cabinet Nomination

President-elect Donald Trump continues to fill his cabinet and there continues to be constant speculation about who he will pick next. Cathy McMorris Rodgers was rumored to be a front-runner for Trump’s Secretary of the Interior, but ultimately, she was not Trump’s choice. Instead, he has named Montana Republican and former Navy SEAL Ryan Zinke to the role.

McMorris Rodgers released a statement after Zinke was named Secretary of the Interior, saying, “It was an honor to be invited to spend time with the President-elect and I’m energized more than ever to continue leading in Congress as we think big, reimagine this government and put people back at the center of it.” Sources say that she did have two short meetings with Trump, but that she never actually received an offer from him.

Zinke had already threatened to run for Senate in an attempt to unseat Jon Tester, a Democrat, in the 2018 elections if he continued to refuse to work with Senators across the aisle. “I haven’t decided,” he said. “But I’m putting pressure on [Tester] to make sure he runs more in the middle.”

During his time as a SEAL, Zinke served as Joint Special Operations Command in Iraq and trained legendary warriors like Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle. Now, in Congress, he serves on the House Natural Resources Committee, including subcommittees on Energy and Mineral Resources as well as Federal Lands. His wife is part of Trump’s landing team for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. “Nothing is more near to my heart than caring for our troops,” Lolita Zinke said on Monday. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve in such a crucial part of this Administration.”

If Zinke is confirmed by the Senate, there will be a special election to replace his seat in the House of Representatives.
