Donald Trump to reverse key Barack Obama climate change policy

In 2016, Barack Obama added a new concern to our threat to national security: Climate change. Conservatives around the world collectively rolled their eyes at this new declaration, believing it to be one of the most absurd things they’d ever heard. How can something surrounded by so much sketchy science, possibly be on the same level as ISIS?

But in true Trump form, our new President is rolling back the decision to designate global warming as a national security risk and will not be extending Obama’s policies regarding the matter. He’s taken the more prudent approach of instead focusing on China and Russia, who have proven themselves to be much more dangerous than the fabled changing of the climate.

The Trump administration has made plans to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord if changes are not made which drew heavy criticism from the left, who claim that – among other things – Trump doesn’t care about the planet and is okay with slowly killing the Earth with our reckless policies.

“The United States will continue to advance an approach that balances energy security, economic development, and environmental protection,” reads the Trump White House strategy.

“The United States will remain a global leader in reducing traditional pollution, as well as greenhouse gases, while growing its economy,” it continues. “This achievement, which can serve as model to other countries, flows from innovation, technology breakthroughs, and energy efficiency gains –not from onerous regulation.”

Instead, the White House would like to focus on real, tangible enemies like China and Russia, who are actively threatening freedom with their policies.

“They are determined to make economies less free and less fair, to grow their militaries, and to control information and data to repress their societies and expand their influence,” says the strategy.

His threatened withdrawal and his refusal to continue Obama’s policies to combat climate change are in keeping with his “America first” rhetoric which promises to put our country’s needs above those of other countries. Which makes a lot of sense given that, you know, we live here. If we’re not going to put ourselves first, who will?

There are enemies out there who wish to crush the United States and make us territories of their countries, forcing us to live under their dictatorial regimes. Pardon me if I think that’s a bit more important than whether the oceans may or may not be rising, which is disputed even among scientists studying the matter.
