Illegal Aliens Are NOT Going to Like Who Trump Just Appointed to Run Immigration Team

Trump’s history as a liberal Democrat has people questioning whether or not we can trust that he’ll follow through with the many promises he made during the presidential campaign. How do we know that he won’t just revert right back to being a liberal again? The people he has been appointing to his team should be a sign that he plans to keep his promises so far. And that includes the man he just chose to run his immigration team.

Kris Kobach is the Kansas Secretary of State and he has been leading Trump’s team on immigration policy. “I’m a member of the immigration policy transition team, and there’s going to be a lot to do there, in part because Mr. Trump and Mr. Obama are diametrical opposites when it comes to immigration policy, so there will be a lot of changes,” he explained.

Right now, Kobach is performing most of his work with the Trump team remotely. “The work I do with the transition team is just conference calls and email, so it’s actually people all over the country who are experts in immigration policy and immigration law just working together and talking on the phone,” he said.

Kobach has been criticized by liberals for being an “anti-immigration zealot.” He is affiliated with the Immigration Reform Law Institute, the group behind Arizona’s SB 1070 law, which requires police to check someone’s immigration status whenever someone is arrested or detained if the officer has “reasonable suspicion” that the person is an illegal immigrant.

Previously, he told the Washington Post that he opposes any attempt to give illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. However, he does not support rounding up immigrants and forcibly deporting them; rather, he says that illegal immigrants should voluntarily deport themselves. “We are constantly told that the only two options are massive roundups [of illegal immigrants] or an amnesty. But attrition through enforcement is the third way,” he stated in 2012. “Change the individual decisions of particular illegal aliens, and they will decide to leave the country.”

In addition to these views, Kobach supports requiring photo ID before anyone can vote. He also participated in a lawsuit challenging Obama’s executive action on immigration, where Obama swore to take no action against illegal immigrants as long as they “played by the rules.” Kobach called it “imperial executive amnesty.”

Finally, Kobach believes that the wall is going to happen. “There’s no question the wall is going to get built,” he promised. “The only question is how quickly will it get done and who pays for it.”
