MEET THE NEW BOSS: Priebus to be Trump’s Chief of Staff

Well, that certainly would not have been my choice. But then again, I’m not president. Donald Trump has now officially appointed Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus as his chief of staff. Priebus was extremely loyal to Trump during the whole election cycle and it paid off. He’s a mixed bag for me. I did not think he was effective or particularly great at heading up the GOP. But perhaps he will excel in this position. Trump must have faith in him and he deserves a chance just like Trump… tabula rasa… a clean slate.

Trump was quick to praise Priebus after he defeated Hillary Clinton. It was widely known that Priebus was one of two finalists for the position. His competition was Steve Bannon of Breitbart News fame. That particular contest seems to have been decided this evening. Trump’s team is now beginning to take shape for real. It will be interesting to see how he fleshes it out over the next couple of weeks.

From Fox News:

President-elect Donald Trump will appoint Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus as his chief of staff, two sources with knowledge of the decision told Fox News Sunday.

Priebus was one of Trump’s most loyal lieutenants during the real estate mogul’s up-and-down campaign that resulted in many Republicans, particularly lawmakers seeking reelection, to distance themselves from Trump.

Trump praised Preibus’ efforts in his victory speech after his upset win over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Priebus was thought to be one of two finalists for the chief of staff post, along with Trump campaign CEOfficer Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News.

Bannon is expected to be named senior counselor to the president, the sources told Fox News.

Priebus, an attorney, is a former RNC general counsel and chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party. He was elected RNC chairman in 2011.

Steve Bannon will now become Donald Trump’s senior counselor and chief strategist. Trump had this to say about his two lieutenants: “I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country,” Trump said in a statement. “Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again.”

Both Priebus and Bannon will work closely with Mike Pence on the transition effort. “It is truly an honor to join President-elect Trump in the White House as his Chief of Staff,” Priebus said in the statement. “I am very grateful to the President-elect for this opportunity to serve him and this nation as we work to create an economy that works for everyone, secure our borders, repeal and replace Obamacare and destroy radical Islamic terrorism. He will be a great President for all Americans.”

Bannon, whose position was listed first in the announcement, expressed his enthusiasm in working with Priebus. “We had a very successful partnership on the campaign, one that led to victory,” he said. “We will have that same partnership in working to help President-elect Trump achieve his agenda.”

Priebus passed the Trump kids’ test – they like him, which is a must in this equation. “Reince, given the names discussed, is the best choice. He is well liked on Capitol Hill. He has a great relationship with Paul Ryan. He’s popular in the Senate. But he’s not a real D.C. insider,” said the source who spoke to Trump about the pick Sunday. “Donald’s children like him as well. If the kids don’t like you, you’re not working for Trump.”
