Trump Announces Another Cabinet Position!

Trump has been slowly filling his cabinet positions and his latest choice is sure to make conservatives happy. Trump has reportedly chosen the person to run the Department of Homeland Security and it’s the third general to join his administration. John Kelly will allegedly be the next Security Chief for DHS.

Kelly is a retired Marine general who oversaw Latin America operations and also served in the Middle East. He joins Gen. Mattis and Gen. Flynn as members of Trump’s cabinet with impressive military resumes. Kelly served as the commander of U.S Southern Command and in Iraq, was the top Marine for a year. He also has served as an aide to both Leon Panetta and Robert Gates. He served 46 years total in the Marine Corps and became the highest-ranking American military official to lose a child in combat since 9/11 when his son, Lt. Col. Robert Kelly, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010.

Mattis and Kelly both have reputations for their blunt opinions and tough talk. According to CBS News, the final call to Kelly offering him the job is expected to come soon.

During the campaign, Kelly did not endorse Trump and made it known that he would be open to working with either a Democrat or a Republican. This summer, he described politics as a “cesspool,” something that is believed to have endeared Kelly to Trump, with Trump’s goal of “draining the swamp” in Washington, DC.

Kelly also spoke of problems with the southern border, telling the Senate Armed Services Committee in 2015 that it was a threat to our safety. “In my opinion, the relative ease with which human smugglers moved tens of thousands of people to our nation’s doorstep also serves as another warning sign: These smuggling routes are a potential vulnerability to our homeland,” he said.

It sounds like he’ll be another great addition to Trump’s cabinet.
