I think it would be easy for most of America to agree that politics is an ugly business – even before the nightmare that was the 2016 Presidential campaign. Sticking your neck out there and attempting to gather votes for your nomination is a lot of work and a lot of stress. You leave yourself open for transparency and wait for the attacks to come in from your opponent and your opponent’s supporters.
But when the campaign is finished, win or lose, it’s over. But is it really over? You just went through a hail storm of accusations, allegations and questions of character by your opponent. Are you able to just let bygones be bygones and let it go?
Donald Trump made some pretty harsh and in my opinion, ridiculous claims about Senator John McCain’s service during Vietnam and although I am adamantly against McCain today in every way, being tortured and refusing to leave the other POW’s behind when offered a release is heroic.
As it turns out, McCain still isn’t a huge fan of President Trump…go figure.

Now when it comes to another candidate – who was Trump’s only real competition throughout the whole campaign – things got REALLY over the top with attacks against a wife, crazy allegations of multiple affairs and even claims of association with the assassination of a United States President! Senator Ted Cruz was able to turn the other cheek and let things go…eventually.
But was Donald Trump? Here he is at the NRA Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia:
Trump says on NRA stage that he liked Ted Cruz, then disliked Ted Cruz, then re-liked Ted Cruz. https://t.co/tDh2Kl8xwL

In John Hawkins’ new book ‘101 Things All Young Adults Should Know’, he teaches in chapter 10, “People are what they are and probably are not going to change much once they reach adulthood.” Trump sounds and acts EXACTLY how he did back when he was the young, new real estate developer on the block…and that’s because he is the same. This sounded like he buried the hatchet…though let’s be real – this could change in a split second. Let’s not forget who we are dealing with. If you criticize Trump, he’s your enemy and you are the worst humankind has to offer. But if you say one good thing about him, YOU’RE A GOOD GUY!
…Just massage the man’s ego and you’ll be his best friend.
