Mouse Used to Block Water Pipeline

They use a tiny lizard to block oil drilling and weeds to close off natural gas and oil shale resources. Now our moonbat rulers are stalling an $80 million water pipeline to Greeley, Colorado in the name of a mouse:

In seeking a permit from the federal government to begin work on the final 6:½-mile stretch of the pipeline, Greeley submitted a biological assessment that concluded the portion of the project would not have any “adverse effects” on the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse — protected under the U.S. Endangered Species Act — or the northern leopard frog.

However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service came to a different conclusion this week.

This is why we have a 10th Amendment: so that a rogue government in the District of Criminals can’t prevent anyone from doing anything constructive anywhere in the country.

The pipeline project was initiated way back in 2003. It will provide 50 million gallons per day to Greeley, assuming eco-sanctimonious petty tyrants allow it to be completed. The 30-mile pipeline is just short of the finish line.

Debate exists about whether the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse should still be protected. Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway said there’s evidence that suggests the rodent is not even its own species, and also noted that the federal government’s efforts to protect the animal have historically been contradictory — such as protecting the mouse in Colorado but not protecting it in Wyoming, where the terrain is basically the same.

“It’s the quintessential example of the U.S. Endangered Species Act run amuck,” Conway said. “It’s cost businesses, municipalities and individuals millions of dollars over the years. It makes you wonder what’s being protected.”

What’s being protected is the ability of leftist bureaucrats to grind their heels into our faces. That they put the alleged comfort and convenience of mice — literal vermin — ahead of supplying humans with water tells you all you need to know about liberals.
