Soda taxes are only the thin edge of the wedge. Our moonbat overlords have decided that they don’t like that humans eat meat as a normal part of our diet (which is why we have canine teeth). The objections used to be that eating meat oppresses animals (never mind that the animals we eat would be rare or nonexistent if we did not raise them for food), but now it is primarily because according to leftist dogma, eating meat makes it be too hot outside. Naturally this will be exploited as an opportunity to confiscate more of our money:

By 2050, scientists forecast that emissions from agriculture alone will account for how much carbon dioxide the world can use to avoid catastrophic global warming. It already accounts for one-third of emissions today — and half of that comes from livestock.

Consequently, a United Nations panel “urged its environmental assembly to consider recommending a tax on meat producers and sellers.” The ultimate goal is a global tax on meat, which authoritarian moonbats hope to achieve within 20 years.

Once they get the taxes high enough, the oligarchs will still eat meat, but the rest of us won’t be able to afford it. It is possible that some people actually believe this will have a beneficial effect on the weather.
