Pew Research Asks Millennials What They Think Of Free Speech, And The Results Are A Bit Frightening

This is a direct indictment of both our culture and our educational system, which have been taken over by people hostile to our values as a country and are not inculcating those values to our kids. We’re going to pay a price for this down the road…

A recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center finds “nearly twice as many Democrats say the government should be able to stop speech against minorities (35%) compared with Republicans (18%). Independents, as is often the case, find themselves in the middle. One-third of all women say the government should be able to curtail speech that is offensive to minorities vs. 23% of men who say the same.

Furthermore, Americans who have a high school degree or less are more likely than those with at least a college degree to say that speech offensive to minority groups should be able to be restricted (a 9-percentage-point difference).”

That 40 percent of millennials think government censorship of free speech even if it might be interpreted as bigoted (by whom?) is a good thing is a problem. You either live in a free country or you don’t. And a government which can sanction or punish you for giving your opinion is not the government of a free country.

The number of people too ignorant to understand this is growing rapidly, as the graph above suggests. When the millennials have kids of voting age, which will begin to happen in less than 20 years, you might well have a generation the majority of whom will support government-imposed penalties on politically incorrect speech. Which the government will then get to define. And that majority will pick a president, who will pick the Supreme Court that defines the limits of free speech. You can guess the rest.

That, friends, is the end of America. We can now see it coming.
