Authoritarians Use Grief as a Weapon

It isn’t your imagination. Whenever there is a tragic shooting, liberals deliberately exploit it to attack our constitutional right to bear arms. This conscious strategy is spelled out in “Preventing Gun Violence Through Effective Messaging” (PDF), a document created by Beltway consultants at the behest of gun control advocates. From Opposing Views:
The document states that “The most powerful time to communicate is when concern and emotions are running at their peak … The debate over gun violence in America is periodically punctuated by high-profile gun violence incidents including Columbine, Virginia Tech, Tucson, the Trayvon Martin killing, Aurora and Oak Creek. When an incident such as these attracts sustained media attention, it creates a unique climate for our communications efforts.”
The document further suggests using “emotionally powerful language” to promote the gun control cause.
It is important to strike while the iron is hot, because once people calm down, they begin to understand that gun control causes more, not less gun violence. The cliché is true: the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. The Jared Loughner rampage is the only mass shooting in this country since at least 1950 that didn’t occur in a gun-free zone.
