AMA Rejects Biological Reality, Proclaims People Are Whatever Sex They Feel Like Being

Look what NBC snuck in with a piece about the AMA ruling that cheerleading is now a sport last week:

In other action Monday, the AMA said transgender people should be able to switch the sex designation on their birth certificates without having sex-change surgery.

Most states make the operations a prerequisite. But the new AMA policy acknowledges that gender identity doesn’t always match a person’s birth anatomy.

An AMA report says identification documents that are consistent with gender identity rather than anatomy is essential to basic social and economic functioning. …

The new policy won praise from the National Center for Transgender Equality.

No doubt the AMA treasures this pat on the head from one of the creepy cabals of militant perverts that have been allowed to drive policy not just for the government, but also for private sector pillars of the liberal establishment.

Surprisingly, AMA stands not for American Moonbat Association but for American Medical Association, despite this organization appearing to be far more competent in the political than the medical arena. After all, a brief chat about the birds and bees when I was a little kid imparted more than enough medical expertise for me to know that girls are girls not because they say they are, or because our rulers say they are, but for certain biological reasons that pertain not to liberal dogma but to physical reality.

These biological reasons have been officially discarded now. People don’t even have to make a token nod toward physical reality by surgically disfiguring themselves into grotesque parodies of the opposite sex. All a guy has to do is say he is a girl et voilà: a magical transformation takes place, fully endorsed by the AMA.

Stopping just short of full-blown psychosis, the high priests at the AMA also proclaim that

patients deserve medical care that is appropriate to their birth anatomy even if they self-identify as the opposite sex.

That is, the patient is one sex officially; however, the patient is also not that sex but rather the other sex. Doctors will need to sharpen their doublethink skills.

Why do we care what these PC weenies declare in their pompous and clearly politically motivated proclamations? After all, girls will be girls and boys boys no matter what they choose to call themselves, and no matter what bizarre lies are printed on their revised birth certificates.

Here’s why:

Homosexuality had been universally regarded in some sense as a psychosexual illness from before recorded history. But in 1973, it was removed from the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). Officially, it is no longer a disease.

That set the stage for the situation we find ourselves in now. We are not only forbidden to criticize even the most repugnant and obviously unhealthy perversions, we are compelled to celebrate them. We are required to pretend they are normal, and the highly impressionable may even believe they really are normal. Small children are turned over to sexual deviants to be subjected to unwholesome upbringings at best, and sometimes molestation. Already, the official normalcy of perversion has been exploited to attack the Christian religion, with potentially devastating consequences for our national character and public morality, not to mention freedom of worship.

DSM-V has taken the inevitable next step by minimizing the abnormality of thinking you are a different sex than you really are. The often very serious psychiatric illness “gender identity disorder” no longer exists:

The new manual will diagnose transgender people with “Gender Dysphoria,” which communicates the emotional distress that can result from “a marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and assigned gender.” This will allow for affirmative treatment and transition care without the stigma of disorder. … [The American Psychiatric Association] also released new health guidelines for transgender patients, as well as a position statement affirming transgender care and civil rights. Both documents align with a new standard for respecting trans people in the medical community.

That is, not only perversion but insanity as well is now officially endorsed by the authorities.

I don’t want to think about what progressivism may compel them to normalize in DSM-VI.

When objective reality takes a backseat to moonbat ideology, officials are telling us that 2 + 2 ≠ 4. Once they can get people to go along with that, all extremes of tyranny and insanity become possible.
