BREAKING: Massive Earthquake Hammers United States – Please Pray

Well, this is one I was right in the middle of just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I’m writing and working and suddenly, the earth literally MOVED. I’m no stranger to earthquakes… I’ve been through numerous ones in Nevada and California. In one memorable one in Vegas, I was working at a law office on the bottom floor of a three story brick building when that one hit. It rolled into the building and rippled the glass windows. I dove under a desk and rode it out with no injuries or damage. The one this morning was a 5.6 and you felt it but good. It groaned upward and rumbled and rolled on for over a minute. I don’t even tend to notice earthquakes unless they are over a 5 pointer… this one was that and more.

The quake this morning ties the strongest to ever hit the state in 2011 in Prague, 70 miles from Pawnee where this one hit. We are a way from there and everyone felt that one. All I could think of was the movie Dante’s Peak, when the leader said, “I felt that one,” just before everything went to hell. It was a wild ride.

From the Daily Mail:

One of Oklahoma’s largest earthquakes on record rattled other parts of the Midwest on Saturday from Nebraska to North Texas.

The United States Geological Survey said a 5.6 magnitude earthquake happened at 7.02am Saturday in north-central Oklahoma, which is a key energy-producing region.

That matches a November 2011 quake that hit the city of Prague, which is about 70 miles south of Pawnee.

Geologists say damage is not likely in earthquakes below magnitude 4.0, however, some buildings suffered severe structural damage from the quake in Pawnee.

People in Kansas City and St. Louis, Missouri; Fayetteville, Arkansas; Des Moines, Iowa; and Norman, Oklahoma, all reported feeling the earthquake. They also felt it in Nebraska and all the way down to Dallas, Texas. Tulsa rocked and rolled with it. No one was hurt that I know of, but a number of buildings have damage at least in Pawnee.

Sean Weide in Omaha, Nebraska, told The Associated Press that he’d never been in an earthquake before and thought he was getting dizzy. Weide said he and one of his daughters ‘heard the building start creaking’ and said it ‘was surreal.’ Dude, it’s like surfing, many times you just have to ride it out… panic is your biggest enemy during an earthquake.

Of course, they are blaming this on underground disposal of wastewater from oil and natural gas production, i.e. fracking. Somehow, I doubt that. This felt tectonic. There evidently was a foreshock yesterday of 3.2. I just hope something bigger isn’t coming.

Hell of a way to wake up on a Saturday morning. Officials with the Pawnee County Emergency Management are checking bridges and structures in the area. Emergency management is also on the scene via Governor Mary Fallin.
