Hilarious: Oregon Strikes Down Law Banning Self-Service Gas Stations and Residents Freak

As a child, I never understood the reason why Oregonians couldn’t pump their own gas. Why would there be a law stating that a gas station attendant must pump the gas? As an adult, it made a lot more sense to me: people are clueless idiots. They don’t act in their own self-interest a lot of the time and they hardly act rationally. So it made more sense to me. But I still think it is stupid and lazy. There has never been a time I did not pump my own gas and I’ve lived all over the country. Why would you pay more for something that takes just a couple of minutes to do? And why would you live somewhere that mandated that insanity?

A law has passed through the Oregon legislature this last year that will allow the citizens of counties with less than 40,000 residents to pump their own gas. That’s in the rural areas, not the population centers. People consequently freaked out. The sky is falling, or something. Everyone else in the world can pump their own gas, but these rural folks are too frail to do it themselves. And I mean that. You’d think an apocalypse had descended on Oregon or something. Geez.

PUMP YOUR OWN GASStarting January 1st Oregonians can begin pumping their own gas in rural counties. MORE: http://bit.ly/2lnpGYPDo you think Oregon should allow self-serve gas stations statewide?

The law, which takes effect at the turn of the new year, has created a meltdown among some of the rural residents. A Medford, Oregon CBS affiliate asked some of the residents there about the new law and the responses were quite telling. Over 1,000 people responded to their poll and people were not happy. They set social media on fire over this idiocy.

“I don’t even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian…..I say NO THANKS! I don’t want to smell like gasoline!” one woman wrote in a comment. Yikes, I don’t know how some people put their pants on in the morning with attitudes like that. If you pump your gas right, you don’t smell like gasoline. And that says a lot about this person and how self-sufficient they aren’t.

“It is safer for people, if a station attendant does the service. The only advantage of pumping the gas yourself, would be paying a few cents less a gallon. Getting older, and being disabled, I’d rather have the help!” another person wrote. Do you quit bathing or dressing yourself as you get older? I can understand if you are physically disabled, but really… pumping your own gas is just a normal part of life. It’s like screaming that your servants are being taken away or something. And it’s not safer. Oregon has restrictive gun laws. If you are waiting for an attendant, you are a sitting duck for bad guys if you aren’t armed.

I side with the reasonable people like this person:

“It’s official. Oregon is full of mentally defective, full grown children, incapable of the most mundane of adult task.” It’s a progressive state, so yeah… pretty much. There are good, sane, independent people there, but they are massively overshadowed by the liberals. Just like California and Washington these days. Socialism has run amok and the laws are just plain nuts.

I think Oregon is full of mentally defective, full grown children all right. Especially the people who sued over a wedding cake. And don’t forget the free abortions for everyone there too. Oh, and euthanasia and taxation. Oregon has gone full-blown communist over the years. They need to scrap their state and city governments and just start over. And they are pretty much broke just like all the other progressive states out there.

The cause of personal liberty will only grow stronger in 2018. We don’t need a nanny state banning things and telling us what to do. There is no reason to ban self-serving gas stations. You can always call an attendant for help if you are disabled. That is what happens in every other state. There is literally no reason for this law other than to look like you created jobs and to raise the price of gasoline, something Oregon hippies love to do. This only benefits gas stations in the end.

What do you think about the new law? Should they go all out and allow self-service in all counties?
