TRAGEDY: Mother Reverses Car Over 1 Yr-Old Son With Father Just Feet Away Inside Home

This is every parent’s nightmare; accidentally harming their child. There are so many stories detailing the horrible things that can happen the moment a parent lets their attention wander for even a second and all of them are heartbreaking.

In Louisiana, a mother accidentally ran over her 1 year-old son, who had somehow gotten behind her truck as she was backing out of the driveway. A neighbor called the police when they heard screaming and crying, but it was too late to save the young boy.

Tralyn Crosby, 35, was backing her truck out of the driveway when she ran over her 1 year-old son, Cai. Police were called and an investigation of the incident gave them no reason to suspect foul play or impairment of any kind. To the contrary, they believe that Cai followed her out of the house without her knowledge. The baby was rushed to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The father of the child was in the house with the couple’s two other children at the time of the incident, but didn’t realize that Cai had gone outside.

No charges have been filed against the mother.

“This is a horrible tragedy for this family and the community,” said Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre in a press release. “My heart goes out to the family, and I pray they can find peace in such a difficult time.”

To be the mother of a child who has passed away – and what’s more, to have had a hand in it even if accidentally – must be extremely hard. Hopefully this woman and her husband are able to hold it together for the sake of their other children and give them the best life possible. Nothing will ever take away the pain of losing a child, but it should drive them to be the best parents they can be.

And to everyone else, please be careful. Know where your children are at all times, because they’re curious little creatures and can get themselves into a lot of trouble if left to their own devices. Before you leave the house, make sure you know where everyone is and be careful that none of them toddle out of the house after you. Mistakes will always happen, but a little bit of diligence can go a long way.

My thought and prayers go out to this family and I hope they can come together and find happiness again.
