Ivanka Cancels Book Tour, Cites “Abundance of Caution”

Ivanka Trump has made a place for herself as her father’s right-hand woman, with an office in the West Wing and a presence in his meetings with foreign leaders. But there’s one thing that she’s giving up: her book tour.

In 2015, long before Donald Trump was President, Ivanka began writing a book titled Women Who Work: Rewriting the Rules of Success. She finished it before the election and it is due to be published in the spring. She had plans to promote the book with a tour across the country, but she has just released a statement announcing that the tour was cancelled.

“Out of an abundance of caution and to avoid the appearance of using my official role to promote the book, I will not publicize the book through a promotional tour or media appearances,” she posted on her Facebook page. “I wrote it at a different time in my life, from the perspective of an executive and an entrepreneur, and the manuscript was completed before the election last November.”

Ivanka was also originally set to receive a quarter million dollar book advance, but she’s forfeiting that as well. Instead, she will be donating the money to multiple charities, with a special focus on organizations that benefit working mothers and their children, through funding “women’s initiatives.” So far, charities that will be receiving funding include the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the National Urban League.

But that doesn’t answer what will happen to the profits and proceeds from the book sales. Ethically, it could present a problem — as senior adviser to the president, she isn’t allowed to profit off of her position. She’s made the right decision in cancelling the book tour, but this isn’t Ivanka’s first foray into ethical murkiness. It’s interesting that this is where she has chosen to draw the line.

In John Hawkins’ new book ‘101 Things All Young Adults Should Know’, he teaches that if you want to know what a person really believes, watch their actions. What are Ivanka’s actions indicating?
