Are you upset that Capital One is giving the thumbs up to Baldwin’s homophobic comments by keeping him on as its spokesman? Are you sick of the double standard that says liberals like Baldwin can get away with saying things that conservatives can’t? Do you just think it’s disrespectful to conservatives for Capital One to have someone like Alec Baldwin as its spokesman?
You can make a difference, but you have to be willing to stand up, speak out and spread the word.
That’s all we did when we got some conservatives together and sent out the following release:
Leading Conservatives Call on Capital One to Fire Alec Baldwin
Gay and Straight Conservatives Join in Effort to Hold Baldwin Accountable for Homophobic Remarks
(Washington, DC) – Today a group of more than two dozen prominent conservative activists called on Capital One to fire its spokesman Alec Baldwin following homophobic comments Baldwin made on Twitter last week. The effort led by gay conservative strategist Jimmy LaSalvia and John Hawkins of RightWingNews.com consists of an open letter to Capital One CEO Richard Fairbank and an online petition urging action by Capital One.
“It’s still a free country and Alec Baldwin can do as much gay bashing as he likes on Twitter, but it’s hard to understand why Capital One would choose to publicly condone his homophobia by keeping Baldwin on as its spokesman,” said Hawkins. “If Capital One is not going to do the right thing, then Capital One doesn’t deserve our business.”
“In 2013, it’s just not ok to use that kind of language to refer to a gay person. Alec Baldwin knows that, and so does Capital One,” said LaSalvia. “A company’s spokesman should represent its values, and thus far, Capital One has shown its approval with its silence about Baldwin’s comments,” he said.
“We urge all Americans to ask themselves, ‘What’s in your wallet?’ We hope they will reject Alec Baldwin’s homophobia by cutting up those Capital One cards in their wallets,” stated LaSalvia.
“Liberals and conservatives may not agree on much, but we should all certainly be able to agree that Alec Baldwin’s comments were way over-the-line and completely inappropriate,” said Hawkins. “That’s why we’d certainly invite any liberals who oppose homophobia to join with us in calling on Capital One to do the right thing and fire Alec Baldwin,” he concluded.

Dear Mr. Fairbank,
We are writing to express our outrage at the recent homophobic statements made by your spokesman Alec Baldwin. Those vile anti-gay comments have no place in public discourse and reflect poorly on Capital One.
Thus far, you have chosen to show your approval of his statements by condoning them with your silence. You should denounce Mr. Baldwin’s statements and he should be released from his contract with Capital One.
We will urge all Americans to stand up to homophobia and anti-gay bigotry by standing with us against Alec Baldwin and the company he represents.
Whether you’re liberal or conservative, if you agree that Capital One should fire Alec Baldwin as its spokesman, we’d appreciate your signing on as well and spreading the word.
