The sexual harassment scandal caused major damage to the Fox News brand. They were forced to make an unprecedented public apology and paid Gretchen Carlson $20 million, in addition to ousting Roger Ailes. Numerous Fox News personalities came forward, all women, and reported that they too had been victims of sexual harassment, including superstar Megyn Kelly. And in an interview with Dr. Phil, she finally opened up about it.

Kelly’s appearance with Dr. Phil McGraw will air this week, and in it, she talks about how Ailes sexually harassed her and yelled at her for running a story on her show about his first marriage. She said the problems began just a year after she began working at Fox News and was a new reporter working in Washington, DC.
“So I went up to New York. But the problem with that meeting and with several that happened over the next six months was, not only was there legitimate professional advice, but there were grossly inappropriate comments,” she said. Kelly explained that Ailes made “specific comments about my body, how he wanted to see me and it grew more severe over time”.
When Dr. Phil asked her to explain more, she said, “He said he knew I must have some very sexy bras and he’d like to see me in them.” She added that she didn’t want to be “salacious”, but felt it was important to speak out, even though it was not a pleasant conversation for her to have. “But I want people to understand this was real, he did do this and I was far from the only one,” she explained.
Kelly also claimed that Ailes tried to kiss her and that he said he would help advance her career if she would give him sexual favors. Ailes’ lawyer, Susan Estrich, released a statement on his behalf in advance of the show airing, saying, “Mr. Ailes denies her allegations of sexual harassment or misconduct of any kind.”
Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit in July alleging that she was fired after she refused Ailes’ sexual advances. Ailes resigned not long afterwards, while multiple female anchors came forward also alleging sexual harassment, although Ailes recently released a statement denying the harassment.

Dr. Phil then asked Kelly about her relationship with Donald Trump, as the two notoriously feuded throughout the primary and the presidential campaign. She said that there is no longer any issues between the two of them. “Well I don’t think I did have a contentious relationship with him – I feel that Trump and I have moved past that after I met in a Trump tower and it’s a long sit down with him,” she said. “And I have a good relationship with his children, with his wife and so he and I, I think, you know we’re not ‘tight’ but I don’t think we do have a problem with one another.”
She also explained why she decided to get tough with him in the first debate.
“Once he announced his candidacy for president one of the stories that broke about him was that in his divorce proceeding from his first wife Ivana, she had under oath accused him of raping her and she later recanted that testimony but the news broke that under oath she accused him of it and basically people were just running with it,” Kelly explained. She continued that Trump “wasn’t happy that I put the reporter on the show and four days before the presidential debate – that is now become so well-known and well-seen, he called me up and threatened me and made very clear to me that he was extremely displeased”. Kelly said she refused to be intimidated by him, though. “Mr Trump I’m sorry that you are unhappy but you don’t control the editorial on the Kelly File,” she said was her response. “And that was it: He started screaming at me; he hung-up the phone… and the next time we met was that Thursday night.”
