2 Years After A Navy Dad’s Death, A Son Gets A Postcard …

That postcard meant the world to that little boy – as if his dad is still with him and watching over him. It took seven years to reach him and his dad passed away two years ago. It’s a miracle it got to him. I don’t understand how mail can get tied up for that amount of time. But I’m very glad a father’s note of love found his little boy, probably when he needed it most. The Navy commander’s assignment was finally finished when his nine year-old son read of his love for him, long after a cruel disease took him from this life. He finally got to say goodbye.

From Qpolitical:

A 9-year-old received a postcard from his father who died two years ago. Get ready to sob.

Joseph Torrez, a former Navy commander, sent the postcard to his son Rowan in 2007 during a road trip with his dogs from Boston to Colorado. (He even included the dogs in the signature.) The Navy veteran sent a postcard from every state he crossed during the drive but several got lost in the mail and Rowan never received them.

Rowan was unable to say goodbye to his father before he lost his battle in 2013 to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, an extremely rare brain disorder. Hopefully the loving words from the lost postcard help heal the heartbreak of grief.

“Hello from Pennsylvania! I love you and I miss you so much. See you soon. Love, Daddy,” is what the priceless postcard said.

Take a look at the heartwarming note sent when Rowan was only two years old.

The delayed delivery is a sweet reminder that Rowan’s guardian angel is always with him.

Love doesn’t know the boundaries of life and death. Perhaps the postcard will help heal some of the grief and let Rowan move on in life with a lighter burden. His father loved him very much and I’m sure he misses him even more. There are moments in our lives that involve some form of miracle that shape our lives and how we venture forward from that point on. This is one of those moments for Rowan and his father’s love is still and forever reaching out to him and embracing him, giving him strength to go on.
