Happy 240th Birthday to the Marines! A Tribute All Should See – Semper Fi!! [Video]

Today we celebrate the 240th birthday of the Marines. Yeah! No one does it better than Madison Rising and you just have to see their video below. It is fantastic! Makes you fall in love with our military all over again. From defending the US from Muslim pirates to fighting in numerous world wars, our Marines have been and are some of the bravest warriors the world has ever seen. They are the few, the proud, the Marines and they are the sworn protectors of the Republic. They go where few others dare to and run into the fray when lesser fighters run from it. A Marine is a special kind of soldier – they are what the enemy fears and has nightmares about. They are warriors who do not fear death and don’t hesitate to take the fight to the enemy. They are the US Marines.

From Allen West:

Today is the 240th birthday of our United States Marine Corps, birthed at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia. The history of our Marine Corps is filled with impeccable names — Lieutenant Presley O’Bannon, SGM Dan Daly, Lt. Gen. John Lejeune, Private Robert Leckie, CPL Eugene “Sledge” Bondurant, CPL Ira Hamilton Hayes, GySgt John Basilone, Lt. Gen. Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller, CPL Herschel “Woody” Williams (whose signed picture of receiving the MOH hangs in our home), COL John Glenn Jr., and of course GySGT R. Lee Ermey. And I have to send a shout out to LCPL Herman West Jr. my older Brother.

From the taking of Derma Libya where they earned the name “Leathernecks” to Belleau Woods where the Germans called them “Devil Dogs” to today in Fallujah, Ramadi, and Helmand Province they have been there and stood as true “Guardians of our Republic.” They are the Few, the Proud, the Men and Women of the Scarlet and Gold — with whom I was blessed to spend a three-year joint assignment at Camp Lejeune from 1999 to 2002.

“From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli they have fought our country’s battles in the air, on land, and sea. They have fought for right and freedom and to keep their honor clean. They have proudly claimed the title of United States Marines.”

So I just want to share the birthday message words from an incredible Marine, a mentor and a friend…COL Wayne “Lobo” Morris (USMC, Ret).

Semper Fidelis y’all!

From Col. Morris:

As I’ve mentioned in previous Marine Corps birthday messages, each and every Marine Corps birthday is special in one way or another. Again this year, Marines are celebrating the Birth of our Corps around the Globe, and for yet another year, some are celebrating our birthday standing fully in harm’s way. These warriors remain in our thoughts and prayers 24/7!

Many of us have celebrated Marine Corps birthdays not only around the World, but in vastly differing settings and situations. From grand ceremonies to very small ones. In formal ballrooms to bunkers and fighting positions. In blazing hot desert sands, steaming jungles, snowy grounds frozen nearly solid. Truly then, “…in every clime and lace where we could take a gun!”

The birthday of our Corps is much more than the reading of General Lejeune’s famed words, the annual Commandant’s message, birthday greetings from other well-wishers, and of course, the cutting of a ceremonial birthday cake. Our birthday is much more than all the combined tradition mentioned in the foregoing. For those of us who have earned the Title of United States Marine, it is an annual re-birth…a re-dedication to our Corps, our great nation, and most importantly, our fellow Marines.

This year, and even more so than any time that I can remember during my 54 years of being a Marine, we are involved in a fight for our nation’s life…quite possibly our very own lives! We must continue to stand firm in the face of evil threats from abroad, and especially those from within. We must continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder and back-to-back with one another in defense of our great nation because Her good citizens expect nothing less from Their Marines!

I have mentioned for several years, now, that I no longer believed we could count on all those who reap the benefits of being considered Americans. Given what many of us see coming upon us, and at least in my own heart of hearts, I believe this to be true. That said, however, I am consoled in knowing that there are still many out there we can rely upon and who will be there when the chips are down. Leading that number, of course, are THOSE OF YOU READING THIS MESSAGE!

Marines fear only our GOD, and no others!

Where you find war and evil, you will find the Marines fighting it tooth and nail. Bravery is distilled in such gladiators. As we slip into a third world war, the Marines are what stand between the world and darkness. God bless them. Never has our nation faced more enemies from within or without. Only those who are brave of heart and strong of character make the cut in the Marines and they are the tip of the spear in the battle for freedom and the very existence of our country and our way of life. They know what sacrifice means… they know what it truly means to be an American and give your all for your country. When all looks bleak, the Marines stand with the oppressed. I wish the Marines a very happy 240th birthday. Semper Fi!
