Nancy Pelosi is one of the most liberal politicians in Congress, as well as former Speaker of the House. But since Republicans took back both houses, she has become increasingly irrelevant — so perhaps that’s why she was so eager to jump in the spotlight with the nation’s current debate over Confederate monuments.

Pelosi has joined with other Democrats in calling for Confederate monuments to be removed. And she is specifically taking aim at the United States Capitol. In a statement she released Thursday, she implored Speaker Paul Ryan to remove Confederate statues from the Capitol building.
.@SpeakerRyan, it is time to immediately remove Confederate statues from the halls of Congress. https://t.co/twJ4MFOfgB pic.twitter.com/7Yx6p4JgCK

JUST IN: Pelosi to call for removal of Confederate statues from Capitol, urge Ryan to support elimination of the "reprehensible" figures.

In the Capitol building, there are statues of Confederate leaders like Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Vice President Alexander Stephens and General Robert E. Lee. And while it may be time for these statues to come down, the curious thing is Pelosi’s timing. After all, those statues were standing during her entire tenure as Speaker of the House, as well as the years she spent in Congress before that. Why didn’t they bother her then? She wasn’t concerned about it at all until it was politically beneficial for her to demand their removal.
Why? Somebody earlier said @NancyPelosi has been OK with them the other 112 yrs she has been in office.

Will @NancyPelosi support the removal of KKK member Senator Robert Byrd's portrait from the U.S. Senate Leadership Portrait Collection? https://t.co/4HPM1qVHQx

Anything to keep her name in the news though, right?
