The community of Omaha, Nebraska has banded around the family of Kerrie Orozco, a police officer killed in action just one day before her maternity leave was to begin. And one lovely message inspired a campaign of support in honor of the officer’s life.
Officer Orozco was a new mom whose baby, Olivia, was just three months old. The girl, born prematurely, was set to come home Thursday, the day after her mother died.
Donations came pouring in from neighbors and complete strangers alike, all worried about Orozco’s young family and, especially, baby Olivia.
Today, on the day of Orozco’s funeral, the world heard from the infant, so to speak:
… The city embraced it during the funeral service and procession:

It looks like Officer Orozco left her baby in good hands.
It is an unbelievable tragedy that this officer would lose her life when she so obviously had so much to live for. And while it won’t in any way replace Officer Orozco, at least her family can go forward knowing that they won’t be in this alone.
