WATCH: His Dad Died in the Line of Duty, But Someone Special Showed Up to Watch Him Pitch at the Big Game

There is a brotherhood among police officers, the same way there is among service members. And when one of Houston’s finest was killed in the line of duty, the department showed up to support his son in a big way.

Houston Police Officer Richard Martin was killed in the line of duty Monday when, police say, a burglary suspect intentionally hit him with his car.

… Officer Martin left behind his 11-year-old son, Tyler, who decided he’d honor his Dad by pitching for his team, The Texas Hawks, in his Little League game the next day.

But he wasn’t alone.

Officers from the Houston Police Department came to cheer on Tyler.

And pray for their friend.

They signed his game ball. One of the officers said of Tyler, “He’s always going to be one of us.”

It will be unbearably difficult for Tyler to have to bury his father, and live the rest of his life without him. But he will also always know that he has the entire Houston Police Department in his corner, ready to be there for him when he needs it.
