DRUDGE DEBATE POLL: Trump, Cruz and Rubio Left Standing in Republican Showdown

According to the voters at the Drudge Report, Donald Trump was the overwhelming winner of last night’s debate. According to the Fox News focus group, Ted Cruz was the overwhelming winner. I thought it was Cruz, but I’m biased. During a live post-debate “Kelly File,” a focus group of 26 South Carolina Republican voters overwhelmingly said that Ted Cruz was the big winner of the Fox Business Network GOP debate. They were most impressed over the exchange between Cruz and Donald Trump over Cruz’s “birthright citizenship” issue. Trump says Cruz may not be qualified to serve because he was born in Canada, though Cruz says it is a “non-issue” because his mother is a citizen. Cruz “handled” Trump on the issue one woman told pollster Frank Luntz. “It was really evident that he was capable of taking the hit and handling it and turning Donald around on himself.” But Trump held his own and was provocative, gauche, funny, emphatic and fearless. Trump doesn’t back down when the crowd boos him, he holds his own against his opponents and he has identified and exploited the anger of many Republican and independent voters.

Drudge Poll

Where Cruz really stood out was on national security. He hit a home run when he said our military would not be on their knees in front of our enemies if he is president. Trump is doing his best to cast doubt on Cruz and I am sad to see that. I also think Cruz’s comment on New York values was ill-conceived. I hope the two of them reconcile and come together to defeat our enemies on both sides of the aisle. Right now, it is Trump’s race to lose, but Cruz is a scrapper and is going to fight him tooth and nail for the nomination. Let the games continue! This is going to be one wild, political ride.
