Thanksgiving weekend was yet another disgrace for the NFL. As usual, you had players kneeling, raising their fists, staying seated or remaining in the locker room to show unity against police officers and our country in general. President Trump is seriously fed up with it. I can relate. In fact, Trump echoed me today by saying that the American public is “fed up” with the demonstrations and the NFL is “weak and out of control.” We sure are and that describes the NFL perfectly.
“At least 24 players kneeling this weekend at NFL stadiums that are now having a very hard time filling up,” President Trump tweeted. “The American public is fed up with the disrespect the NFL is paying to our Country, our Flag and our National Anthem. Weak and out of control!” According to the media, approximately two dozen players made fools of themselves during the National Anthem prior to Sunday’s games. That didn’t count the scuffles and fights that broke out as well.
Philadelphia Eagles players Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod raised their fists during the anthem. Their teammate Chris Long put his arm around Jenkins in a gesture of camaraderie. Ugh. Kenny Stills, Julius Thomas and Michael Thomas of the Miami Dolphins all knelt during the National Anthem. So did New York Giants defensive lineman Olivier Vernon. Nine players for the Seattle Seahawks remained seated during the National Anthem. Two members knelt next to them. Three players on the San Francisco 49ers team knelt and Los Angeles Rams defensive linebacker Robert Quinn raised his fist.
And there were more… Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters and Tennessee Titans wide receiver Rishard Matthews both decided to stay off the field altogether while the National Anthem played. A number of the Indianapolis Colts players locked arms on the sidelines while the anthem was played. And let’s not forget Marshawn Lynch, who is now infamous for sitting during the National Anthem in Mexico, but standing for their anthem as it played. He sat out the National Anthem on Sunday.

Trump has tweeted on all of this several times and he’s not impressed to say the least. The NFL has indicated that if this goes on, that next season they will have the teams stay in their respective locker rooms until after the National Anthem plays. Trump has called such an action “almost as bad as kneeling!” And it is… it’s cowardly. But personally, I think it is better than them disrespecting the flag on the grid iron. And that won’t stop people from turning away from football over all of this. The NFL has certainly made their own bed… now they get to kneel in it.
Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.
