Trump wins at the Supreme Court! Travel ban can take full effect

The Supreme Court has spoken and they have stated that the travel ban is fully legal, Constitutional and will take full effect. That is fantastic news! The decision came down in a 7-2 ruling, in which Ruth Bader-Ginsburg and Sonya Sotomayor were the only two Justices to give dissenting opinions on the matter. Why am I not surprised. Those two are all for open borders and bringing in as many unvetted refugees as we can. That’s just plain nuts.

The travel ban (which has been incorrectly dubbed the “Muslim Ban” by liberals) effectively bans travel from Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen, most of which are Muslim-majority countries. However, this ban does not single out Muslims specifically, as Muslims from other countries are allowed to travel to the United States normally. And Venezuela and North Korea are not Muslim countries.

The government, which is represented by Solicitor General Noel Francisco, asked the justices to re-instate the ban based in part on the findings of a review, which provided new security-based justifications for the inclusion of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen and, he argues, turns the likelihood of success against the plaintiffs. This ruling should have been an easy one. But the left is being obstructionist and that includes their attorneys and judges.

The ban prevents even family members like grandparents and cousins from visiting their relatives in the US. Basically, anyone who doesn’t have a “bona fide” relationship to an American citizen is barred from entering the country. This has been troublesome for many, who view grandparents as important role models in their families and believe they should not be included in this ban. But the purpose of this ban is to prevent possible terrorists from entering the US. Until adequate vetting is put in place, it is better to err on the side of safety than chance a terrorist getting in and killing innocent Americans.

The ban will take effect despite the legal challenges against it in two lower courts: the San Francisco-based 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals and the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia. These two courts will be holding hearings regarding the legality of the move during this week. Both are seen as rogue courts and after the ruling in favor of the ban, it is widely thought that the Supreme Court will uphold it. They should as President Trump constitutionally has the right to impose the ban.

Depending on how quickly they reach a decision, the Supreme Court should be able to hear and decide upon the issue no later than June of 2018. It should not be taking this long, but for now we can at least take comfort in the fact that it is being imposed.

“This a substantial victory for the safety and security of the American people,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated right after the order was issued. “We are pleased to have defended this order and heartened that a clear majority Supreme Court has allowed the President’s lawful proclamation protecting our country’s national security to go into full effect. The Constitution gives the President the responsibility and power to protect this country from all threats foreign and domestic, and this order remains vital to accomplishing those goals.”

This is a vindication for Trump who pushed this travel ban early in his Presidency, but found that it met heavy resistance when brought to lower courts. Many Republicans argued that these countries were terror hubs and that allowing anyone in who is from said countries would be a danger to America. Liberal Democrats claim that the actions “of a few” terrorists shouldn’t burden the entire religion of Islam and that this ban unfairly targets Muslims. But it doesn’t. Again… if that were the case, North Korea and Venezuela would not be part of the ban. And even if they weren’t, this was never a Muslim ban. It is a ban from known terrorist countries to ensure the safety of Americans.

The truth is, America is just doing what it can to protect itself from a future like England or France, where terror-related attacks are taking place with worrying and increased frequency. It may seem “mean,” but a lot of things that are good for you are considered “mean.” Like not letting a 15 year-old go to a party where there will be alcohol, or making your toddler eat their vegetables. This isn’t forever and it’s definitely only biased against terrorists. I don’t know of any sane person who has a problem with that. Doing solid background checks and vetting on refugees and migrants is common sense, not hatred.
