The banner flown over Tallahassee, which belongs to the group Save Southern Heritage, also promised, “We’ll Remember in Nov.”
“We want to let the legislature know that there are a lot of Floridians watching what happens,” David McCallister, a Save Southern Heritage spokesperson, told the media. “These initiatives are draconian, expensive and irreversible. Once history is gone, it’s gone.”
Also on Tuesday, a rally was held on the capitol grounds in Jackson, Miss., to protest the removal of the Confederate symbol from the state’s flag. Between 100 and 200 people were in attendance.
“Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn said this week that it’s his belief it is time for a new flag. The state legislature could implement such a change or put it on the ballot as a referendum and let voters decide,” UPI reported.
Last July, in the wake of the Charleston shooting, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and several other state leaders oversaw the moving of the Confederate flag from the capitol grounds to the state museum.
