Firefighter is Making His Way Through Smokey House When He Sees Something He Wasn’t Expecting

The Grand Rapids Fire Department was out on a routine fire, in what they were told was an empty house. When they saw a motionless form laying on the floor, that’s when the heroics truly kicked in.

It wasn’t the Michigan firefighters’ normal kind of rescue, however, as that form belonged to a small dog, who – as firefighter Craig Lewis noted – was not in good shape:

“He was breathing three, maybe four times a minute. Very shallow, raspy, stiff as a board.”

After ensuring there were no people inside the building, the rescuers reportedly began trying to revive the pup with CPR and oxygen.

Watch more in the video below. They worked over the dog for a full 30 minutes before it was revived. As dangerous as their jobs are, it’s these random acts that truly show what’s in a firefighters soul.
