A Girl Wanted to Take Prom Photos at Her Dad’s Grave. But What She Saw When She Got There…

It’s that time of year where young girls dress up like princesses and head out to their school prom. This year 17-year-old Sierra Bradway headed out for prom but while she seemed to have it all: beautiful dress, sparkly shoes, and a fantastic date, she didn’t have ‘it all’. A key ingredient was missing from this milestone occasion came — Bradway was missing her father, fallen police officer Ron Bradway.

Bradway decided that if she couldn’t have her father by her side to take photos and tell her she was lovely, then Bradway would go to him. She headed to the Indianapolis’s Crown Hill Cemetery with a framed photo of her dad and her date, Brock Spayd.

Bradway had no idea that her extended police family would be there too, waiting to greet her at the cemetery with their love and support, and to honor their fallen colleague. As Bradway stepped out of the vehicle with her date, a pleasant smile of surprise washed over her face.

Two officers greeted the couple on horseback as dozens of officers lined the walkway to Officer Bradway’s grave. It was Bradway’s dates mom, a captain in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, who coordinated the thoughtful effort. And THAT just put me in tears. Such a thoughtful effort by the police force and even more so by a mom her son is dating.

“There were a lot of laughs, some tears, but most importantly, there was love,” read the video captions, posted by Indianapolis Police. “Sierra, we know your father is smiling from heaven. Know that your Blue Line Family will always be here for you.”

“Everybody on the department talked about how big of a family man he was,” said Mike Pruitt, who worked with Officer Bradway at the fire department before he became a police officer. “And how willing he was always to help people within and outside the department.”

“Honored to be included in Sierra’s prom,” wrote Chief Bryan Roach on Twitter. “As our beloved fallen brother #OfficerRodBradway would say, ‘have Sierra home before 9P, sir!’”

And now for the joyous pictures!!!
