After A Lifetime Of Hits At 84 Years Old Willie Nelson’s DEATH Song Will Make Your Heart Melt

Willie Nelson released a new album just before he turned 84. He called the album “God’s Problem Child” which is appropriate for this eternal rebel. Willie Nelson sings in his songs (especially on this new album) that he can do whatever he damn wants, which is exactly how he lives his life.

I grew up listening to Willie and even got to see him in concert at the California State Fair when I was young. I was so impressed at how his band just played together as if they were each a cog in a smooth running engine. Maybe it’s because my parents listened to Willie Nelson in the evenings as I was drifting off to sleep. But there is just something about his voice that reaches my soul.

If you ask me, I bet Willie could sing the songbook and I’d be satisfied. Willie’s most recent album began with a text when he sent his first song ideas to Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Buddy Cannon.

“It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever done as far as writing a song goes,” Cannon said over the phone during our interview. “But it works. We’ve got about 25 or 30 songs down, and we wrote them all just like that. We’ve never sat together in a room or on his bus with a guitar and said, ‘Let’s write a song.’ We talked about doing that, but we both agree that this is too much fun and it works so well, we’re afraid we’ll mess it up if we try to do it the normal way.

“Usually [Willie] goes to his place in Maui and gets in that mode of life down there,” he added. “When he does that, he starts writing stuff and as he writes it, he’ll just send it to me. It might be two lines. It might be a whole verse. It might be what ends up being a chorus, and he just sends that to me.”

Phone text was how they started seven songs on Nelson’s latest album God’s Problem Child, and this song “It Gets Easier” really touches on how love can grab your heart and not let go, no matter how free a person you are. Yes, I cried. Here are some of the lyrics to It Gets Easier:

It gets easier, as we get older
It gets easier to say “not today”
And it gets easier, as we get older
To say “go away and not today”

I don’t have to do
One damn thing
That I don’t want to do
Except for missing you
And that won’t go away

You can tell a huge change in his views when you compare his newly released song above with his 1965 song “It Should Be Easier Now”
