Police said the 28-year-old Jenna Newman’s boyfriend, 68-year-old Kenneth David Clinton, shot her and then ran her over with a car on Thursday night on Sam’s Creek Road.

According to authorities, 18-year-old Caleb Martin was on his way home from work when he saw what was happening.

“I thought he was a drunk driver until I saw he was swerving … into her,” Martin said. “As she tries to evade the car, he hits her into the guardrail.”

Martin pulled over and shielded Newman from further attack.

“The first thing I thought was, am I going to die?” Martin said. “But I thought, she might die and it’s about her. It’s not about me.”

Officers said the teen drove the victim to his grandmother’s house and called 911. Paramedics responded and took the victim to the hospital.

“I promised her I wouldn’t let her die,” Martin said.

Shortly after, the Clinton allegedly made a suicide threat.

“I’m pretty sure a lot of people would have done it,” Martin said. “I didn’t do anything too special. I was just there at the right time.”

Authorities said they found Clinton dead in his girlfriend’s car at Harpeth River State Park with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Newman had been shot twice. She is in serious condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Thank God that this teenager intervened when he did, or she may not have been so lucky. America would truly be a better place if had more people who had such selfless hearts. Thank you for your kind act of bravery, Mr. Martin. I am sure it will not soon be forgotten.
