Outrage As School Children Are Forced To Chant ‘Allahu Akbar!’ In Muslim Prayer

Thank heavens this story does not take place in our country. However, in Germany, many are outraged after children at a school were assigned homework that none of the parents were comfortable with. In an ethics discussion, they were taught about the Islam faith. As part of the study they were told to memorize a Muslin prayer and recite it in class.

The handout read: “Oh Allah, how perfect you are and praise be to you. Blessed is your name, and exalted is your majesty. There is no God but you.”

One parent found out as he saw his daughter studying from the card. He looked into it a little and saw what she was memorizing. He and other parents were furious that their children were having to study the prayers. It was especially infuriating to many who were still upset about the school’s decisions regarding Christmas celebrations… Christmas celebrations had been banned from the school. Why? You may ask. Well, it is because they felt like the school shouldn’t focus on one religion when it was a multi-cultural school.

It is a pretty incredible contradiction. They can’t celebrate a holiday that has Christian origins, but they are forced to memorize an Islam prayer and recite it in class. How is that acceptable? Here is the truth. It isn’t acceptable.

I agree that we should tolerate those around us. We should focus on appreciating other’s differences. But that does not mean we should have to sacrifice our own identities in the process. We should teach our children to strongly and boldly embrace who they are. And to protect their rights to express themselves. That means also protecting other’s rights. But it never means sacrificing your own identity for another!
