Taxpayers Paid $220k to Settle Sexual Harassment Lawsuit for Democrat

Regardless of how you feel about the current state of affairs and the heartbreaking number of women coming forward claiming that they were sexually harassed by one powerful man or another, I think we can all agree that our taxpayer dollars should not be used as hush money. I don’t care if you’re conservative, liberal, libertarian, or politically unaffiliated, that is wrong. I don’t work every day so that these creeps can pay women to stay quiet about their sexual misdeeds.

But apparently Democratic Representative Alcee Hastings (from Florida) thought that he could use the United States Treasury as his own personal wallet. They paid $220,000 to settle a previously undisclosed sexual harassment lawsuit.

The woman at the center of the allegation? Winsome Packer. While a staff member of a Congressional committee that promoted international human rights, she claims that Hastings would touch her, make inappropriate and unwanted sexual advances, and even threatened her job. At the time, Hastings was the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe chairman, and Packer was his employee.

Of course, Hastings denies knowing about the accusations as well as saying that he had no hand in their resolution.

“Until this evening, I had not seen the settlement agreement between the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) and Ms. Packer,” he said in a statement released Friday night. “This matter was handled solely by the Senate Chief Counsel for Employment. At no time was I consulted, nor did I know until after the fact that such a settlement was made.”

He then goes on to lament the fact that taxpayer dollars were used to settle the case.

“I am outraged that any taxpayer dollars were needlessly paid to Ms. Packer,” he said.

Do you believe that he had no knowledge of the allegations against him? Does anyone really actually believe that they didn’t consult him before paying out such a substantial sum of money to a woman who may or may not have been telling the truth?

If he’s telling the truth, it indicates that sexual harassment from politicians is so prevalent that it’s more worth it to pay a woman hush money than it is to fight the allegations. If he’s lying, it means he’s a scumbag who needs to go.

Again, I don’t work so that dirtbag politicians can grab on women who aren’t their wives and then pay said women not to go public with the fact that they can’t keep their hands to themselves. As Americans and has human beings, we deserve better.
