The Hostage Obama Left Behind: Bob Levinson’s Family Devastated He Is Left Out Of Iran Swap

Sadly, there’s an Iranian hostage who was left behind in this recent return of American prisoners by Iran. His name is Bob Levinson. He’s been in the hell that is prison in Iran since 2007. And our State Department didn’t see fit to include him in the group who gained freedom. What do you think of this situation?

They know now, barring some miracle, they may never get him back, since the U.S. just gave away any hold it had and lifted sanctions. Levinson is Jewish, those released all had Iranian heritage, not sure if that entered into it.

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) — The family of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who was taken hostage in Iran in 2007, has spoken out after learning that Levinson was not one of four prisoners freed by the Iranian government as part of a prison swap deal with the U.S. on Saturday.

In a statement released Saturday morning, Levinson’s family said:

“We are happy for the other families. But once again Bob Levinson has been left behind. We are devastated.”

Levinson reportedly went missing on Kish Island, Iran in March 2007. He is a retired FBI and DEA agent with 28 years of service as a U.S. government employee.

According to Reuters:

Levinson’s wife and sister have met with Obama, and the family had been told to expect a call from the White House, according to a source close the family.

Instead, they learned from television that he was not among the five Americans to be released, the source said.

David McGee, the family’s lawyer, declined to comment.

Levinson worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Justice Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration for 28 years. He worked as a private investigator after retiring from the government in 1998.

We can only hope that our next President will come in and free Levinson as well as any other Americans unfairly stuck in Iran. We don’t exactly know why Levinson was excluded from the deal. We only know that he was. And that is very difficult for his loved ones, who were treated quite insensitively by the administration. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Levinson family.
