VIDEO: A Veteran Who Had To Give His Dogs Up When He Was In The Hospital Learns He Gets Them Back

A dog can be a man’s best friend. For those who have full families, they are welcome members of the family. For those who have few others, they can be remarkable sources of happiness and comfort. When a veteran was forced to surrender his dogs while he convalesced, he was devastated- especially since he could not pay the adoption fee to receive them back. But when strangers jumped to his aid, he was overwhelmed with joy and appreciation and the whole thing was caught on video.

A veteran who was forced to give his dogs up during a hospital stay has been left in tears after learning he gets to have them back.

The unidentified owner was caught on video during the touching moment as a Delaware animal shelter staffer informed him that the adoption fees for Bailey and Blaze had been paid for by a volunteer.

The heartwarming moment on Thursday did not end there as the man also learned that he was receiving donations from staff and volunteers including toys and a gift card for food and gas, The Huffington Post reported.

‘Are you serious?’ the man is heard asking in the video as he bursts into tears after learning that he got to have his dogs back.

He then asks the employee, ‘They’re my dogs?’ to which she responds yes and adds that he will also be receiving donated items including a gift card and bones.

‘This is like… so unbelievable. Thank you,’ he says.

The man was so touched by the kind gesture following an ordeal a few months back in September when he ended up in the hospital after suffering a heart attack, according to the Huffington Post.

With no one to take care of Bailey and Blaze, the First State Animal Center and SPCA stepped in and cared for the dogs while owner was unable to.

As the situation was meant to be only temporary, weeks passed and the dogs were eventually put up for adoption.

However, by the time he got out of the hospital, the dogs still had not been adopted, which their owner was pleased to learn.

On Wednesday, he had gone to the shelter which is located inside of a PetSmart store, where he was reunited with his dogs.

‘The dogs couldn’t contain their excitement,’ adoption counselor Lindsay Carrothers recalled of the reunion.

‘They greeted him with massive kisses and wagging tails.’

But the owner said he needed some time to gather the $250 needed to cover the adoption fees.

Thanks to a staff member suggesting the idea to cover the fees and a volunteer who paid them, on Thursday that is when he learned that Bailey and Blaze were his to take home.

Other staff members and volunteers pitched in on the act of kindness and bought items such as food and supplies, and donations have still continued to come in for the man and his dogs.

‘It had everyone in tears,’ Carrothers said. ‘You could just feel the love those dogs had for him.

‘And there shouldn’t have been anything, especially money, that should’ve stood in his way to getting his family back.’

The video of the touching moment was posted to Facebook where it has been viewed more than 2 million times.

This world can be cold and unforgiving; moments like this show the true humanity of which people are capable and this man will, undoubtedly, never forget this kindness.
