VIDEO FOOTAGE: Aussie surfed on a whale carcass in SHARK-infested waters

An “idiot” from Australia jumped on top of a whale carcass while it was being circled by feeding sharks on Saturday. The insane footage, which was captured by a Seven News helicopter, shows Harrison Williams, from Perth, Western Australia, jumping off a boat into the shark-infested waters and scrambling up the body of the beast.

“It was a stupid act, didn’t mean to disrespect anyone. Mum thinks I’m an idiot, dad’s not too proud, either,” he told Seven News. The 26-year-old extreme sports fan was out on a boat with friends when he spotted the rotting carcass, which had been floating in the ocean between Rottnest Island and Fremantle off the Western Australia coast.

“At first I couldn’t get a grip and I ended up using my chin to drag myself up,” Williams told Seven News. “I was out on a boat with the boys and one of them said it would be pretty funny if I surfed a whale, so I just did.”

Surf Life Saving Western Australia advised the public on Saturday morning that there were two tiger sharks and one five-metre (16 feet) great white shark feeding on the carcass. These can be seen in the footage as Williams jumps into the water to swim across to the whale.

In this world where social media selfie stardom is all the rage we are just allowing the dumb to get dumber. I bet his parents are glad that Darwin’s Law didn’t get their son but they’re probably just as embarrassed as relieved.
