VIDEO: Righteous Helicopter Crew Hunts Down the Idiot Blasting Them With a Laser

laserConsidering interfering with an aircraft in flight is a federal crime, punishable by 20 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine, you would think the number of idiots flashing lasers at helicopters would be decreasing, not increasing. But that’s not the case, and recently two morons were caught in New York flashing helicopters – including a police helicopter.

Popular Mechanics reports,

Chopper 4 had been heading to Brooklyn to catch footage of a stolen Greyhound bus when the green beam blasted their cockpit. And while the helicopter’s pilot prudently looked away from the beam to avoid being blinded, reporter Dennis Protsko kept him in sight from 1,500 feet.

NBC’s Chopper 4 wasn’t the only one getting hit. According to CBS, one of its choppers was hit as well, in addition to a third chopper from ABC. And when the NYPD brought its chopper in to investigate, it got a taste as well. But thanks to Protsko’s keen eye, the police were able to find and arrest the culprits, which NBC caught footage of from the air.

Darwin awards, anyone? Those two are going to find themselves in prison for a long time. Somehow I don’t think they’ll find it was worth it. Watch the footage below, where you can distinctly see the two men on the ground with the laser.
