VIDEO: Something Mysterious Lit Up the Russian Sky – and No One Knows What it Was

Imagine that one day, you’re driving along, and all of a sudden, a bright yellow light explodes into the sky out of nowhere. This was the sight that countless Russians saw when a mysterious light lit up the Russian sky.

Video posted online shows something light up — possibly explode — over Russia’s Sverdlovsk region Friday — but no one is exactly certain about what it is.

The incredible dashcam footage shows the sky first glow red before morphing into a bright yellow light.

The images appear to be reminiscent of the Chelyabinsk meteors that fell from the sky in 2013, prompting most individuals to point to the stars for an answer.

However, one expert disagreed.

“My guess this is something originating on Earth,” Dr. Marco Langbroek of the Dutch Meteor Society said, according to a meteor-watching blog. “To me, it looks like a fire or series of small explosions and subsequent large explosion or flash fire reflecting on a cloud deck.”

A Russian news outlet suggested there might be a chemical plant nearby that may have also been the cause of the glow.

A meteor, an explosion, a chemical plant reaction? The explanations for this strange phenomenon run the gamut, and so far, no one appears to have a conclusive answer.
