The country of Hungary is an important U.S. ally — a member of NATO — and a nation experiencing turbulent shifts in its fragile political landscape. Hungary also borders Ukraine, which is now the unstable target of relentless Russian aggression. Presumably, on a troubled world stage, the United States would want to show that we value our relationship with the important nation of Hungary. Apparently, not so much, as we watch the WH stumble, mumble and completely bungle any possible defense against the recent ambassador confirmations:

Yet the woman Barack Obama has just appointed as our ambassador to Hungary — the woman the Senate just confirmed as our chief diplomat in that country — is a 47-year-old former soap opera producer with no diplomatic credentials.

Remember back in 2008 when Democrats were absolutely giddy at the prospect that Barack Obama would restore respect for America in the world community?

As the Boston Globe then reported:
“…restoring America’s esteem in the world is a prime motivation of voters supporting Barack Obama for president.”

Well, as they say, that was then…..

“Democrats are hungering for Obama as an international symbol of change.”

Now, given the people President Obama is naming as America’s official representatives to other nations — given their qualifications or lack thereof — one is inclined to wonder whether certain member states in the world community believe Obama really respects and values them.

Given President Obama’s current actions with regard to key diplomatic outposts, one has to consider in a new light what Obama said in 2008, as quoted on boston.com:

“The day I’m inaugurated, America will look at itself differently, and the world will look at America differently.”

In a rather testy exchange in the White House briefing room on Tuesday, tenacious ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl quizzed presidential spokesman Josh Earnest about Obama’s latest ambassadorial appointments to Argentina and Hungary.

Both appointments, whose confirmations Harry Reid rammed through the still Democrat-controlled Senate, were highly controversial — neither had any diplomatic experience and both were big bundlers or donors to Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012.

David Bryson Mamet, the new U.S. envoy to Argentina, reportedly doesn’t speak the nation’s language and has never even been there.

Colleen Bell, on her way to the embassy in Hungary, has been a producer of popular TV soap operas.

The White House spokesman, while acknowledging that these ambassadorships are “important,” was unable to tell ABC’s Jon Karl why Bell was qualified to fill that “important” post in an allied country that borders embattled Ukraine.
You can watch Josh Earnest trying to put the best possible face on that Obama appointment by clicking on the video below.
