Europe in Shock as America Yawns: France and the rest of Europe seems to be going into a tizzy over Jean-Marie Le Pen’s electoral success in France. Well, maybe it’s just me, but what is the big deal supposed to be? He only got 17% of the French vote and everyone thinks he’ll be beaten into the ground in next week’s elections.
Of course the the European press is going nuts because someone with such “extreme views” did so well in France. The papers are portraying this guy at anti-Semitic. Well, considering all the anti-Semitic violence in France lately I’m sure he’ll fit right in. They also say he doesn’t like foreigners. That doesn’t effect Americans either because the French are a famously anti-American already. Therefore, this is no big deal from our perspective. France is for all intents and purposes no more of an ally of ours than Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or Jordan anyway so I can’t see how Le Pen could worsen the situation if he were elected.
