Meet My New Dog: Jackson

Meet My New Dog: Jackson

I have a new dog. His name is Jackson. In a grand stroke of bipartisanship, I named him after my favorite Democrat of all-time: Andrew Jackson — who not coincidentally, also happened to be a great general and one of the most cantankerous bad asses ever to stride the planet. Fortunately, Jackson is absolutely nothing like his namesake. To the contrary, he’s one of the friendliest, most even-tempered dogs I’ve ever seen. He absolutely loves people and other dogs, doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, and only barks on rare occasions to try to get my attention.

I got Jackson from a local pound — which incidentally, was not a no-kill shelter. I literally walked 10 different dogs to get a sense of their demeanor, behavior, and energy level and when I was done, I selected the dog I was most interested in to begin with, the first one I walked: Jackson. He’s two years old and he’s half Terrier, half Welsh Corgi. When I picked him up, he wasn’t in the best of shape either. He was sick and 6 pounds underweight. Now? He’s friendly, energetic, and he loves walks, toys, and chasing squirrels.

He’s also very photogenic. Hope you like the pictures.

After a bath.

Jackson gets so excited about going on a walk that he does this sometimes.
