When one goes snowboarding, he or she assumes certain risks. One might sprain his ankle or might even incur a serious injury. Most, however, usually don’t presume that they are inviting the risk of being eaten by a bear. One woman, however, videoed her run and when she reviewed it, discovered that a bear was chasing her.

As far as close encounters go, this has to be up there with the worst of them.

Kelly Murphy was snowboarding at Hakuba 47 in Japan yesterday when she decided to take a selfie video.

hat’s all good and well and she seems happy enough as she heads down the mountain singing a bit of Rihanna’s Work.

It’s a bit of a white-out on the mountain so vision is low and her headphones obviously cancel out the noise of what’s behind her.

A GREAT BIG HUNGRY BEAR!

The bear chases her for a bit before eventually realising it won’t be able to keep up with her.

She said: ‘I nearly got eaten!!! I didn’t realise at the time but people need to be careful.’

However, some people have called the video out as being fake. One point worth noting is that while brown bears are found on the country’s northern island, only black bears live in the wild on the mainland where this video was shot. This animal looks like a brown bear.

Kelly added: ‘I’m here with my girlfriends but they were doing lessons and I went off by myself. I’ve been snowboarding since I was a kid so I felt safe.

‘I didn’t realise until I looked at the video today! I was freaking out when I saw it and showed my friends who told me to put it on youtube.

‘I’ve told the ski resort people but I’m not sure if they’re going to do anything. Their English wasn’t very good so it was hard to understand each other.

‘It was so scary!’

I suppose the moral of the story should be to constantly be aware of your surroundings.

However, when snowboarding, it’s probably not a good idea to be constantly glancing backwards as you’re hurling forward.

In any case, be careful out there!
