I assume though, that like all idealistic leftists he’s a complete hypocrite and routinely uses medicine/techniques developed on animals. What he means is “it’s acceptable for a million dogs to die so that I might live, but to assuage my guilt I’ll ensure millions of you idiots watching die to save one dog”. And then he’ll come up with some justification for that “oh the world needs me alive to carry on the message so it’s ok that I feast on the souls of homeless animals to stay alive”.

Or how they rioted and killed people over a comic that depicted them as violent (proved us wrong!). Oh right, can’t do that. Mocking christianity is edgy and funny, mocking Islam is stupid because they will fucking kill you.

Sounds to me like they were making a comment about how she was selected. If she won just because of her religion, that would be just as bad as her not winning because of her religion. Those were more comments on affirmative action than simply being “outraged” because a Muslim-American woman won. Maher made it sound like there were riots in the street because of this.

1.) Maher is not a comedian, he’s a political commentator with some jokes thrown in.
2.) It’s a bullshit defense, this “someone can say whatever they want as long as it’s considered comedy”. Yeah, they can say it, but they also have to bear the consequences of whatever comes out of their mouths. Being a comedian or commentator does NOT excuse one from basic civility.

By the way, what happened to that whole “new tone of civility” that the media was bleating about after Ms. Giffords got shot? What’s funny is the lone conservative (sometimes he’ll have two on there) almost always manages to out-debate Maher and his cohorts, to the point that Maher’s face turns red and he abruptly changes the subject. It happens every time and it is the only reason to ever watch the show. Let’s ignore for a second the statistical proof linking higher IQ’s to more liberal political views. Let’s ignore the fact that our country is in the sh**er right now predominantly due to the “W” era. Let’s ignore the fact that the top 1% earning citizens in the U.S. currently pay 38% in taxes yet make more than that proportionately in revenues, and that during the most prosperous economic times in our history, the proportion was closer to 50% in taxes. Let’s ignore the fact that Republicans feel 38% to be too high.

Let’s ignore the fact that John McCain, Obama’s most recent opponent, was taken seriously with Sarah Palin as his VP nominee, a lady who CANNOT be considered intelligent. Let’s ignore that Michelle Bachmann, another leading Republican candidate, is also highly unintelligent. Whether intelligence is a criteria for one to evaluate a potential politician I will leave to you folks.

Let’s ignore the fact that the Republicans recently held out on a spending/budget/debt deal for purposes of political clout and scared domestic investors into selling securities, driving down the stock prices of so many important companies that we now fear a double dip recession (okay, that’s an over-simplification.) But does that matter?

Bill Maher is apathetic, crass, arrogant, and spiteful, but above all passionate about his country. Whether you find him humorous is irrelevant. What is relevant is that I am willing to bet he is smarter than 99% of every single member/frequent guest of this website. Bill Maher stands up for America the Collective, not America the Insane/Ignorant/Souless/etc…and the former is how America has progressed century after century.
