HAH! Here’s What Happened to the Celebrities Who Vowed to Leave the Country If Trump Won

Gee, I’m so very not shocked by this. NONE of the celebrities who swore they would move to Canada if Donald Trump was elected President have done so. Darn it. It’s been six weeks since The Donald was elected 45th President of the United States and only 28 Americans have applied for “Trump related refugee status” to Canada. None of the famous variety.

Among those who said they would hoof it to the Great White North: Bryan Cranston, Rosie O’Donnell, Jon Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg, Miley Cyrus, Amy Schumer, Cher, Samuel Jackson, Lena Dunham, Barbara Streisand, Raven-Symone and others. Many of them now say they were joking. Double drat. There’s goes my Christmas present.

From Heat Street:

Canadian officials say that there was a “bump” in requests for refugee status following Trump’s election—or, at least, that there seemed to be a bump in November, which immigration lawyers attribute to the political change.

“The rhetoric coming from the (U.S. political) discussion… was filled with a lot of concerning language, including hate, exclusion, deportation,” one Canadian immigration lawyer told Canadian state news. “I could see why people would be concerned for their own safety, their own lives, and evaluate whether they could live (there).”

Of the 28 who applied, it’s possible none will be approved to relocate to America’s northern neighbor. The CBC found only two successful claims for asylum out of hundreds of cases filed from the U.S. since 2010. There was no successful claim out of the 170 filed in 2015.

If you aren’t a refugee from an unjust war or an Islamic refugee, Canada is going to be iffy for you. They prefer you are facing an actual threat of death. If you’re not applying as a refugee, the Canadian legal immigration process can take about a decade to navigate. They also probably don’t want our lame celebrities. Who would.

Canada thinks the rhetoric down here is just awful, but notice they secure their borders. They do accept Islamic refugees, but that hasn’t worked out so well for them. Neither has their Marxist leader. These celebs could always seek asylum in Mexico. I think that would be awesome. Their life expectancy down there would be rather short though. No big loss.

Nope, it looks like we are stuck with them and they just don’t know how to shut their pie holes and grow up. Lucky us.
