Underwood: “I Prefer To Stay Away From Politics” But Couldn’t Resist A STAB At It On CMA Stage! VIDEO

Carrie Underwood is one of country music’s biggest stars and she and Brad Paisley co-hosted the Country Music Awards this week for the ninth time. It was not only the 50th anniversary of the show, however — it was also just a few short days away from the election next week. So, while Underwood said she doesn’t like to talk about politics, it was only natural that the subject would come up. And she had a lot to say.

“I prefer to stay away from politics,” she explained. “This is country music and we have 50 years to cover. So I feel like we’ll have lots to talk about, but I think it will be more geared to just us and what we do and all these legends that we have and people that have incredible talent that we have in our genre.” However, she and Paisley roasted the elections, as well as the politicians involved and reflected the sentiments of Americans everywhere.

First, they re-tooled a Randy Travis classic to be more reminiscent of current attitudes towards politics, singing, “This election is taking forever, forever and ever, forever and ever, forever and ever, make it end!”

Then, as Underwood listed the nominees for Entertainer of the Year, Paisley interrupted her throughout, in a hilarious impression of Donald Trump.

CU: …our buddy, Keith Urban.

BP: Wrong!

CU: Also nominated — Luke Bryan and Chris Stapleton…

BP: LIES! Crooked Carrie.

CU: Crooked Carrie? And over here is another entertainer of the year nominee, Mr. Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks.

BP: Okay, that one’s true.

Paisley added Underwood’s name to the list of nominees before he went right back to channeling Trump.

BP: It doesn’t really matter what I think, because this show is rigged… Bigly.

CU: No, it’s not, Brad. But the people need to know: will you accept the results?

BP: Yes. If I win.

CU: You’re not even nominated!

BP: Then no. And you’re a nasty woman.

Underwood and Paisley were equal-opportunity roasters, though. They didn’t leave Hillary Clinton out of the mockery, either. They mocked her with a “basket of deplorables” swag bag for everyone in attendance. They included camo, Miranda’s favorite caliber ammo, beer goggles, Willie Nelson’s potted meat and “Girl Crush” hard soda in Florida-Georgia Lime. But, Underwood warned, Paisley needed to be careful with the soda, or he might have to take a “WikiLeak”.

After that, it was back to business as usual, with the pair focusing on country music. But the ten-minute opening monologue was a hilarious send-up of the political season and it left everyone watching laughing.
