French Encourage Obama to Bypass Congressional Oversight

Sometimes you could almost forget why the USA sent over so many soldiers to fight Germans on behalf of the French:

The French foreign minister said Monday that any international deal that comes from a climate conference in Paris this winter should be written so it avoids needing ratification by Congress.

In the 18th century, civilization came to a fork in the road. The right-hand path was the American Revolution, which led to liberty and prosperity. The wrong-hand path led to the nightmarish French Revolution, which has served as a template for every tyrannical usurpation of power in the name of The People ever since. The American Revolution is why we don’t have a dictator who can commit the country to international agreements without congressional oversight.

“We know the politics in the U.S.” Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said, the Associated Press reports. “Whether we like it or not, if it comes to the Congress, they will refuse.”

That’s because most of them have to face the voters again. This is a strong disincentive to cripple the economy in the name of leftist ideology — I mean, in the name of “climate change.”

The United Nations will host a landmark climate conference in Paris in December with the goal of crafting an international treaty to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Countries are expected to submit individual reduction targets — the Obama administration’s goal is at least a 26 percent reduction in emissions over 2005 levels by 2025 — and strategies for achieving those goals.

No way are reductions like that going to happen without many thousands of Americans being thrown out of work by the senseless hit to the economy. Congress had better step up and defend us, because Obama, Kerry, et al. are likely to side with the French.
