Dems Conspire to Kill the Filibuster

It’s as if the power-drunk socialists currently in the driver’s seat think they’ll be there forever. Do they know something the pollsters don’t? Now they want to kill the filibuster.

Here‘s what Dems said in defense of the filibuster just a few years ago, when they were in the minority, and Republicans were considering the “nuclear option” to get judges confirmed:

Harry Reid:

The need to muster 60 votes in order to terminate senate debate naturally frustrates the majority and oftentimes the minority. I am sure it will frustrate me when I assume the office of majority leader in a few weeks. But I recognize this requirement is a tool that serves the long-term interest of the Senate and the American people and our country.

Charles Schumer:

The basic makeup of our Senate is at stake. The checks and balances that Americans prize are at stake. The idea of bipartisanship, where you have to come together and can’t just ram everything through because you have a narrow majority, is at stake. The very things we treasure and love about this grand republic are at stake.

Barack Hussein Obama:

What [the American people] do not expect is for one party, be it Republican or Democrat, to change the rules in the middle of the game so they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet.

Et cetera, ad nauseam. But now, with 41 Republican Senators and a radical left agenda to ram through, they feel differently.

The Senate Rules Committee met on Thursday morning to examine the filibuster rules and decide whether or not the rules should be reformed. Senator Chuck Schumer, New York Democrat and Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, opened the hearing declaring, “filibusters and cloture motions have escalated in recent years to unprecedented levels.”

Current trends make it obvious that Republicans will take control of the Senate again in the 2012 if not 2010 elections, at which point they won’t have to worry about the filibuster if Dems succeed in destroying it.

Are Dems counting on amnesty or some other means of preventing voters from taking away the power they have so recklessly abused? Or are they totally oblivious not only to our future, but to their own, as they focus like maniacs on inflicting as much damage as possible before voters can put a stop to them? In either case, November 2008 will be regretted for the rest of our history.
