How Much Is a Seat in Congress Going For?

Bart Stupak will slither away rather than face the wrath of the voters he betrayed. Here’s how the left is trying to spin the situation:

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) plans to announce his retirement today, Democrats briefed on his decision said. Stupak, the leader of a pro-life faction within his party, had received death threats and was under intense political pressure after he agreed to support the Democratic health care reform legislation even though pro-life groups insisted that it would allow federal funds to be used for abortion.

Liberals are pushing this absurd meme for all they’re worth. Stupak is a victim and therefore in the right. Those evil right-wingers who don’t believe in preventing unwanted babies from oppressing the polar bears with their carbon emissions made him run away and hide.

If only everyone in the government who has ever received an angry message from a crank would retire, we might get the federal leviathan scaled down to an appropriate size.

Having ostentatiously presented himself as pro-life, Stupak knew all along that conservative northern Michigan voters would never forgive his outrageous treachery — that if he voted for this lurch into tyrannical moonbattery, his Congressional career was over. He didn’t just sell his vote. He sold his seat in Congress.

What will he be getting in return? If only we had journalists curious enough to find out.
