Who Is Rick Perlstein, And What Does He Have Against Vietnam POW’s?

Give us a short moment and we will prove to you that there is no bottom to the shameless accusations of racism and intolerance the Left will hurl at the rest of us.

Specifically, that now the POW-MIA flag needs to banned because it’s offensive to the sensibilities of Rick Perlstein, a simpering dunce employed by nearly-defunct Newsweek

You know that racist flag? The one that supposedly honors history but actually spreads a pernicious myth? And is useful only to venal right-wing politicians who wish to exploit hatred by calling it heritage? It’s past time to pull it down.

Oh, wait. You thought I was referring to the Confederate flag. Actually, I’m talking about the POW/MIA flag.

I told the story in the first chapter of my 2014 book The Invisible Bridge: The Fall of Nixon and the Rise of Reagan: how Richard Nixon invented the cult of the “POW/MIA” in order to justify the carnage in Vietnam in a way that rendered the United States as its sole victim.

Perlstein’s piece goes on to allege that the North Vietnamese treated American POW’s better than the South Vietnamese treated Viet Cong and North Vietnamese prisoners in their charge, and that American POW’s only existed because American pilots were violating the Geneva Convention by bombing civilian targets in North Vietnam.

The whole thing is bizarre, particularly since it comes largely out of the blue, but Perlstein is clearly trying to goose sales of his anti-Republican book released last year. Nothing like climbing atop the left-wing outrage engine and directing it toward a new victim to do that.
