A University in the San Francisco Area Actually Told Students To Call 911 if They Were Offended

The coddling of special snowflakes in our nation’s universities continues, but this time, it’s more ridiculous than ever before. Santa Clara University has literally told their students to call 911 if they were offended — yes, really.

Administrators at a Catholic university in the San Francisco Bay Area have rescinded an official school policy instructing students to clog up the regional 9-1-1 emergency reporting system to report “bias incidents.”

The school is Santa Clara University, reports Campus Reform.

As most people who have aged into the high single digits know, the 9-1-1 telephone number is a special, serious service reserved for emergencies which require immediate assistance from the police, the fire department or an ambulance.

Until this month, however, Santa Clara administrators have been instructing students to report “bias incidents” using the emergency service reserved for dispatching police, firefighters and ambulances.

“If the bias incident is in progress or just occurred: ALWAYS CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY,” the Santa Clara website instructed students in fierce, all-capital letters.

The language no longer appears on the website but the Internet Archive has a cached version because school officials appear to have quietly changed it this month.

In a nutshell, a “bias incident” is speech which someone, somewhere at the Jesuit university finds offensive.

Officials at school the have defined a “bias incident” as “any speech, act, or harassing action that targets” or “attacks” any “individual or group” because of “race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, age, religious creed, physical or mental disability, medical condition, marital status, citizenship status, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, military or veteran status, or other status protected by law.”

… In a currently accessible brochure on the Santa Clara website, officials at the Jesuit school continue to urge students to ALWAYS CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY” about “bias incidents” underway. The brochure explain that people caught using language someone else finds offensive can be subject to “educational sanctions, disciplinary probation, suspension, and expulsion.”

The brochure from the Santa Clara U. office of housing and residence life — which includes a communist fist — lists several “rights” available to anyone who reports a “bias incident” including the right to “legal counsel.” The brochure from school officials lists exactly zero rights for anyone accused of offensive speech.

Once upon a time, this likely would have been considered abuse of emergency services. Hopefully, none of these students were as stupid as their college administrators are, though, and somehow managed to survive hearing another person say something they didn’t like.
