Gee, if you were utilizing Common Core and you were getting a rash of complaints from parents, this would be the perfect solution. Enclose the learning and brainwashing within the school and cut the parents out of the process. Homework is necessary to learning and development. There is a time to play and a time to learn. There is also a time for transparency and parent involvement. Removing homework and the parents allows for the state to do with the children as they wish. This is a very bad, Marxist move and I would yank my kids out that school immediately. They are shoving a bunch of psychologists in our faces and justifying something that sounds good and makes no rational sense… that should be your first clue that something is very, very wrong here.

From Fox News Insider:
Parents are outraged after the principal of a New York City elementary school decided to do away with homework assignments and encourage children to play instead.
In a letter sent home to parents last month, Jane Hsu, principal of P.S. 116, announced that teachers would stop giving take-home math worksheets and essays. Instead students are urged to play, read books and spend more time with their families.
“There have been a variety of studies conducted on the effects of homework in the elementary grades and not one of them could provide any evidence that directly links traditional homework practices with current, or even future, academic success,” Hsu wrote.
Many parents are upset, saying that they fear their children won’t be able to keep up in the classroom later on.
Child psychologist Dr. Susan Lipkins and former teacher Whitney Neal appeared on “Fox and Friends Weekend” to weigh in on this homework-less approach to teaching.
Lipkins said it’s an “absolutely fabulous idea,” explaining that playtime helps kids learn the information they received during the day, in addition to teaching social and emotional skills.
Neal disagreed, saying that kids bringing work home gives parents an idea of what’s going on in the classroom and how their child is doing.
“I firmly believe that reasonable amounts of homework … is not going to hurt children,” Neal said.
When I was in school, if you finished your assignments during the day, you didn’t have homework unless you were doing extra work. It worked incredibly well in helping students to excel. When I didn’t have homework, I had chores. What’s with all this ‘play’ and ‘socializing’ crap? Under this methodology, parents will have no idea whatsoever what is going on in their children’s classrooms and what they are being truly taught or not taught. I have said it many times before, get your children out of the public school system as soon as you can. You watch, this will spread across the New York school system, then California and they will attempt it nationwide. It’s coming.
